  • You must re-enroll in credit monitoring
    Posted On: Nov 14, 2016

About 600,000 current and former federal workers whose personal information was exposed in the data breach of personnel records maintained by the Office of Personnel Management must re-enroll to continue receiving credit monitoring and identity protection services.

The contract for the company initially hired by OPM to handle credit monitoring services is expiring on Dec. 1. The credit monitoring company ID Experts will take over as the benefits provider for those affected by the personnel records breach.

ID Experts currently is providing services for the 21.5 million current and former employees, retirees, and job applicants whose information was exposed in the larger breach of background investigations data maintained by OPM.

Everyone who needs to re-enroll should be receiving mailed notices, which include personal identification numbers they will use to sign up for the new credit monitoring. Those already enrolled with ID Experts due to the background records breach will not have to take any action.

More information is available on OPM’s special cybersecurity webpage
